Homeless Shelter for Pregnant & Single Mothers

Hello, my name is Tressa Spires. I started Mary’s Safe House in October 2013. MSH is a faith-based organization. The goal of MSH is to offer a safe stable home for homeless single mothers. We will help them identify the steps needed to achieve and maintain stability in their own homes, We have helped 9 mothers that have been with us find services they needed. The mothers have stayed in contact and we are thrilled!

I continue to have mothers contact me.  I would say an average of at least 3 women a week.  This is heartbreaking.  My goal for 2017 is to have a house and funding for the house for at least a year. Our estimate to sustain a house for a year is $130,000 this would include paying a house mom to stay 24/7 for supervision. All of the staff members, including myself, will not be paid.  We do this just as volunteers. We are now a non-profit status 501(c)(3). This will allow people who donate to us and claim that on their tax returns as a donation. Our biggest need is monthly supporters who are willing to give these mothers a second chance.  To be honest I am new at doing a shelter, but I am learning so much along the way. With God’s help and my determination, we will help these single mothers.

Every person’s situation is different but the courage to keep their children no matter what situation arises, and wanting to give them a great life, to me shows great strength and accountability. With a little help and a strong support system, these moms and children can lead amazing lives.
